ABOUT WESTBURNE

Only the most impressive birthday in Canadian electrical distribution history. One hundred years. Since 1926, we have been the people behind the people who build this country, supplying the products, the expertise, and the energy that keeps Canada powered and moving. This is a celebration of every branch, every team member, and every customer who has been part of that ride.

1926. The roaring twenties. Prohibition was still a thing in parts of Canada, the Model T Ford was the hot car, and a group of Calgary businessmen decided to start an oil exploration company in Turner Valley, Alberta. Electrical distribution was not on the agenda yet, that came later. But that is where the story began, and we have been going ever since.

Think of it as a 100-branch road trip – without the van. A digital baton is travelling across every single Westburne branch in Canada, from coast to coast. Each branch receives it, celebrates it, passes it on, and the whole journey is tracked live on this microsite. It is our way of saying every branch matters, every team is part of this, and 100 years is worth celebrating one stop at a time.

Over 100, which feels appropriate for a 100th birthday. We span four divisions: BC and Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec and Atlantic Canada. From big cities to smaller communities, if there are trades people building something, there is probably a Westburne nearby.

We get the right electrical products to the right people at the right time so that the projects that power Canadian communities actually get done. Lighting, automation, wire and cable, energy solutions, if it involves electricity and a professional needs it, we probably have it. Think of us as the behind-the-scenes team that makes the visible stuff possible.

Where do we start. We were originally an oil exploration company. Yes, really. A gas boom in Turner Valley, Alberta in 1926 brought a group of Calgary businessmen together and none of them were thinking about electrical wire. It took us until 1971 to get into the electrical business and honestly, we have never looked back. Since then we went from electrical supplies to automation, lighting, wire and cable, energy solutions, and technology. The products changed, the industry changed, the technology changed. The one thing that did not change is that we kept showing up. A hundred years later, still here, still evolving, and genuinely much better with electricity than oil.

The people. Always the people. Every branch is still run by someone who knows their customers by name, understands what they are building, and shows up when it matters. No algorithm, no chatbot, no automated response is going to carry a heavy order to your truck or call you back when something goes sideways on a job. That is a Westburne person. Has been for 100 years. Will be for the next 100.

THE CENTENNIAL

We did not get to 100 alone. Our centennial celebration is made possible with the support of: Rockwell Automation, Eaton, RAB Lighting, IPEX, Brady, Ouellet, Stanpro, nVent, ABB, and Hubbell. These are the partners who have been in the trenches with us, and we are proud to celebrate this milestone with them.

Four celebrations, four divisions, one massive birthday party spread across the country. Throughout 2026, Westburne is hosting regional events in each division — BC/AB, SK/MB, ON, and QC/ATL. Branch teams, customers, and partners come together to mark the milestone with recognition, celebration, and a genuine good time. Keep an eye on this page for details on the event closest to you.

Right here. The interactive map on this page shows every Westburne branch across Canada. As the torch arrives at each location, the pin lights up and you can see the photos, videos, and stories from that branch team. It is genuinely fun to watch unfold in real time, like tracking a very enthusiastic, very Canadian road trip.

Premio is Westburne’s loyalty rewards program for staff. During the centennial year, branch teams across Canada are earning Premio points by participating in centennial activities, capturing content, engaging with the relay, showing up for the celebration. It is our way of saying thank you to the people who make Westburne what it is every single day. Every point is earned, and every person counts.

Yes. Westburne is a division of Rexel Canada Electrical Inc., part of the global Rexel Group operating in over 20 countries. Think of it as having a very well-connected family, global scale, local feel. The Rexel network gives us strength and reach, but every Westburne branch still runs like the local operation it has always been.

GET INVOLVED

So many ways. Follow the Baton Relay on this page. Visit your local branch. Come to a division event if you get the invite. And if you have a Westburne memory – a project, a moment, a person who helped you out – submit it through the form on this page. Every submission enters you into a draw to win $1,000. Your story might just end up on the microsite or on stage at a division event.

Use the submission form right here on this page. Tell us your story – a project your team pulled off, a branch that came through in a pinch, a relationship that has lasted years. Photos welcome, length not required. Every submission enters you into a draw to win $1,000. Winners announced throughout the centennial year. No story is too small. The best ones are the ones that actually happened.

Yes, and they are worth watching for. Centennial promotions will roll out progressively throughout 2026, so this page and your local branch are the best places to stay in the loop. Your account manager will also be in touch as things are confirmed. Good things are coming. Stay close.

LOOKING AHEAD

The next 100. This centennial is not a finish line – it is a checkpoint. The trades that will build tomorrow’s infrastructure, the communities that will grow and need power to do it, the team members who will carry the baton from here – that is what we are building toward. We are not done. Not even close.

JUST FOR FUN

The most reliable person you know. Shows up early, never complains, always has what you need in the back of their truck, and somehow knows everyone in town. Been around long enough to have great stories but is not stuck in the past. Probably wearing a branded t-shirt. Definitely buying the first round at the branch barbecue. 100 years old and still the hardest worker in the room.

We did the math. Sort of. Our best estimate puts it somewhere in the neighbourhood of 2.4 billion metres of wire and cable moved through Westburne branches over the past century. That is roughly the distance from Earth to the Moon and back – three times. Enough to wrap around Canada’s entire coastline more than 40 times. We are not saying we powered the country. But we are not not saying it either.

Disclaimer: these numbers are a fun approximation and not an official figure. Our accountants would like you to know that. Our warehouse team would like you to know they believe it anyway.

We cannot confirm or deny this. What we can tell you is that our warehouses are very large, very well-organized, and have excellent lighting. Whether that top is still spinning is between you and your electrician.

Psst — you found the easter egg. Fill in this survey for the chance to win $1,000.
